City officials say the waves along the coast are small but that San Francisco residents should not assume this is the end, and they advise staying away from the coast, the San Francisco Chronicle reports this morning.

Janis Lewin, a photographer for Mission Loc@l, stayed overnight in Pacifica and said this morning neighbors told them to evacuate the oceanfront house by 7:30 a.m. They did, and climbed a nearby hill to wait for the ocean to pull back. “that never happened, it never came,” she said.

The Los Angeles Times has created a special page for the tsunami news.

SF Gate offers powerful footage of the aftermath of the 8.9 earthquake.

CNBC has an extensive slideshow of the aftermath.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee will hold a news conference today to update the status of the city’s response to the tsunami warning. the conference is scheduled for noon in Room 200 at City Hall, 1 Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco.
