I am wondering what was the name for the tsunami that hit Japan. thank you!!!! (=^.^=)

I don't understand why you Westerners are keep saying "Tsunami Tsunami"
Tsunami is just byproduct of the earthquake. not main event.

Official name of this time's earthquake is 東北地方太平洋沖地震 (Tohoku region pacific coast Earthquake)named by Japan meteorological agency .

The common name used by the government and television is 東日本大震災 (Great East Japan Earthquake)

They don't name a tsunami like they do some storms.

no it had no name =)

I don't think there is an official name. or you could make one up? how does Yamato sound?

Not specifically the tsunami, but the whole idsaster is called:

Higashi Nihon Daishinsai
Eastern Japan Great Earthquake Disaster (English)
