Do you think the Texas Longhorns could survive as an independent?
Considering that they will have the Longhorn Network, could they survive independent of the Big 12 (like Notre Dame)?
Yes. they and Notre Dame have two of the largest fan bases that are spread all acroass the country.
The problem arises with what to do with Basketball and the non-revenue generating sports. they will be hard pressed to find a conference to accept those teams and allowing the football team to remain independent. The Big East is the only conference that has showed any willingness to allow a school to remain independent for football, but I doubt the it would add a 17th (or 18th) team for those sports.
Yes, no doubt. UT is one of the largest campuses in the country and has a fan base that is comprable to Notre Dame. I think it'd be good for Texas to go independent, it would certainly add an interesting twist to college football.
