Richardson on Charlie Wilson: “We lost a true original”

Forrmer Congressman Charlie Wilson passed away on Wednesday. Wilson is most famous for his role in aiding Afghan rebels when the Soviet Union was occupying Afghanistan. on Twitter, Governor Bill Richardson said “We lost a true original” and otherwise heaped praise on the former Republican Representative from Texas.

Richardson sent two tweets on his account about the passing of Wilson. the first:

Charlie Wilson was a true patriot, a colorful character and a superb Congressman. he was a loyal human being who never forgot his friends.

The second:

I will miss Charlie Wilson’s cackling laugh and daredevil way of life. We lost a true original today.

California State Assemblyman, and California U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore, R-Calif., has a picture of seven congressmen with Wilson in Afghanistan in 1987. Included in the picture? Then-U.S. Rep. Richardson.
