Puma Weather Center: Chicago: Severe Weather Outlook
We have several rounds of rainy and stormy weather in our forecast. To start tomorrow look for showers and thunderstorms to be in and around the area for much of the day, and into the night. on Friday another weak disturbance comes through and drops some more rain into Saturday. This is not a total washout, but you might want to bring an umbrella on the way out the door the next few days. on Saturday look for partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies, as a warm front moves through the area in the afternoon, look for temperatures to surge on Saturday and continue warming into the night. High on Saturday near 70 in the city, even warmer in the suburbs. as the southerly winds usher in gulf moisture look for humidity to kick in with 80 degrees on Sunday, and dew points in the upper 60s, the air will be very moist. This makes the atmosphere extremely explosive, and unstable Sunday afternoon and evening. as a cold front approaches that warm moist air mass we will have in place, we could see massive thunderstorms just blossom during the early evening on Sunday in Iowa, and race toward Chicago.
The models continue to show differences in timing, however the european best captures the conditions we are expecting to play out in terms of instability. This models has recently been advertising the system to go right through the Chicagoland area, however this morning’s run at 6 AM has the heart of the system going to the north of the region. the threat for severe weather is still there, however, we will have to monitor the forecast models as we get closer to the event. every day we get thousands of units of data, which go to improve forecast accuracy. Stay tuned for more on this developing system. we will update you on its progress on Saturday morning.
Have a great afternoon Chicagoland!
