ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Hopped in the cab at the airport and told the driver it was my first trip to Buffalo. “You didn’t miss much,’’ he muttered.
As advertised, it’s about 35 degrees here in with only a hint of snow. With about 15 minutes before kickoff, it doesn’t look like the kind of weather that will change game plans dramatically. The wind is so slight that some of the flags hanging above the stadium are limp. but the scouting report is that things can change in a hurry.
Before you go there, a few last items here:
Chris Hannon is in uniform today wearing no. 15. The 49ers promoted the former University of Tennessee receiver to the 53-man roster and released linebacker Ahmad Brooks, who was on the inactive list for each of the previous 11 games.
Hannon, who is 6-3, 205, spent last season on the Carolina Panthers practice squad. He is on the roster today to provide depth in the wake of injuries to Josh Morgan (groin) and Arnaz Battle (foot).

Took off on a road trip with fellow scribes Maiocco and Barrows on Saturday. Visited the Buffalo Historical Museum, the William McKinley assassination site, Niagra Falls (U.S. and Canadian views) and kept barreling up to Toronto to go to the Maple Leafs game. Turned away at the box office and pestered by scalpers, we were at a crossroads when former Leafs left wing Stew Gavin saw our plight. He sold us his extra tickets and showed us the Leafs alumni suite.
Other than that, it was a slow night.
