Girls prep basketball: Potter’s House routs South Eugene
BEAVERTON — Antoinette Bannister scored 27 points, and Potter’s House Christian School of Jacksonville, Fla., defeated South Eugene 83-39 in the semifinals of the Southridge girls basketball tournament on Friday night.
Ellen Cook scored 16 points for South, which will face the loser of a game between Clackamas and Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) in the third-place game today.
Claire Thallon added seven points and McKenna VanderKley added six for South.
Sheldon 86, South Salem 42: Ashley Land scored 13 points for Sheldon — one of 11 players to score for the team — and the Irish routed visiting South Salem. The Irish (1-0) led 42-21 at halftime and then outscored the Saxons 18-7 in the third. Tiwanna Hamilton added 12 points for the Irish, and Leah Nicklason had 13 rebounds.
Maggie Chamberlain led South Salem with nine points.
Marist 50, Liberty 40: Olivia Houser scored 14 points to lead the Spartans to the road victory over the Falcons.
Delaney Martin added eight points for Marist, and Morgan Silver had six points and 11 rebounds. Allison Crisp led Liberty with 12 points.
Thurston 74, Canby 53: Elise Nelson scored 22 points to lead the visiting Colts to the season-opening victory. Kelli Rice added 17 points, seven assists, seven steals and six rebounds for Thurston.
Sara Erbe and Nicole Friedemann each scored 14 points for the Cougars.
Creswell 56, Marshfield 52: Chandler Gabrio scored 19 points and Breanna Schmidt added 17 to lead the Class 3A Bulldogs to a road victory against the Class 5A Pirates.
Kara Young and Helena Carocci each scored 10 to lead Marshfield.
Triangle Lake 54, Powers 24: Abi Wynn scored a game-high 18 points and Spencer Duke added 10 points and 16 rebounds in the Lakers’ win. Kiana Brown scored 16 points and had seven steals for the Lakers (2-0).
Ann Marie Allen led Powers with 14 points.
Elkton 53, North Douglas 30: Anna Parker scored a game-high 12 points in the Elks’ win at the Elkton Tip-Off Tournament.
Kaitlynn Rice had eight points and Kim Davis scored seven for the Warriors.
Monroe 44, Jefferson 27: Rachel Fielder scored 13 points and Kelsey Seitzinger had six points, five steals and seven assists in the Dragons’ home win.
Crow 35, Southern (traveling team) 21: Laura Grube scored 14 points to lead the Cougars in the win at the Crow Tournament. McKinzie Engel added six points for Crow (1-1).
Kristy Smith led the Australian team with five points.
Yoncalla 86, Illinois Valley 22: Hayley Reynolds needed just 21/2 quarters to record a triple-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals for the host Eagles (1-1). Shelby Gilpin added 14 points and Breezy Joslyn had 13 for Yoncalla.
