Autopsy: Man died from gunshot to the head

Police have charged Jonathan Chad Walker, 34, of Fletcher with first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or vehicle in connection with the shooting death of Thomas Tinajero at Southern Aire Motel on Chimney Rock Road in October.

Tinajero’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, according to the autopsy report. according to investigative reports the medical examiner received, Tinajero answered a knock on the door and was shot in the face.

Tinajero, 36, suffered an intermediate-range gunshot wound to the head. The bullet entered his left check, created fractures of his facial bones and exited through his lower right neck, according to the autopsy.

A toxicology report accompanying the autopsy showed that Tinajero had no drugs or alcohol in his system.

Prosecutors announced in November they would not seek the death penalty because the case does not have the necessary aggravating factors under the law and Walker had no prior criminal record.

Walker is scheduled to appear in court again on June 25.
