Watch this (TV for Sun. 10/24) – That Warm Glow – The Press Democrat – Santa Rosa, CA – Archive
“Luther” (7 and 11 .m., BBC America). This new detective show is really dark and really good. plus, it stars Stringer Bell from “the Wire,” only with hair and a cool accent. Tonight, a sniper is on the loose targeting cops, and crazy Alice threatens to expose one of Luther’s secrets to his ex-wife.
“the Amazing Race” (8 p.m., CBS). the teams race through Norway where — oh oh! — a vegetarian has to choke down a meaty challenge. and then everyone dangles from a bridge.
“Masterpiece Mystery — Sherlock: a Study in Pink” (9 p.m., PBS). a BBC re-imagining of the classic Sherlock Holmes story, set in the present day. This version of the sleuth is a “high-functioning sociopath” with a bit of a Doctor who edge. (Makes sense, they share a producer.) This is the first installment of three 90-minute movies, and they’re getting pretty good reviews. Tonight, Holmes and Watson investigate a series of suicides that may actually be . . . (wait for it) . . . murders! (Oh, and the guy who played Tim on the British “the Office” co-stars.)
“Boardwalk Empire” (9 p.m., HBO). Jimmy hatches a plan to help Al Capone and Johnny Torrio, and Nucky blames a boardwalk robbery on Lucky Luciano. Lotsa name-dropping tonight.
“First Life with David Atenborough” (8 p.m., Discovery). Series premiere. a new documentary that examines the evolution of species blah blah blah, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. who am I kidding, this is going to be boring. Educational and good for your brain, sure, but boring. sorry.
“the next Iron Chef” (9 p.m., Food Network). Hmmm, Santa Rosa’s Duskie Estes is still a contender. Could Guy Fieri have a little hometown competition in the celebrity chef category? Tonight the chefs turn fair food into gourmet dishes. Anyone for a quail corndog with an heirloom tomato remoulade?
“Bored to Death” (10 p.m., HBO). Jonathan helps a lino driver/poet, and Ray meets with Kevin Bacon about his comic.
Catch a score
49ers vs. Panthers (10 a.m., Fox). your morning will be better spent sleeping in.
Steelers vs. Dolphins (10 a.m. CBS). should actually be a pretty good game. Let’s see if James Harrison really retired.
Raiders vs. Broncos (1 p.m., CBS). This old rivalry ain’t what it used to be.
Vikings vs. Packers (5 p.m., NBC). Packers fans get to boo Brett Favre again. Only this time, they have a whole new arsenal of insults.
“Bermuda Triangle Exposed” (8 p.m. TLC). It’s on TLC, so you know it’ll be awful. Besides, the Bermuda Triangle has been off the paranormal pop-culture radar since the ’70s. get with the program, TLC.
“IRT Deadliest Roads” (9 p.m., History). I can’t watch this, it’s too harrowing.
“Football Wives” (10:30 p.m., VH1). no, it’s not the British soap opera. Just a “Real Housewives” ripoff with wives of NFL has-beens (Deion Sanders, Rocket Ismael) and never-weres (George Foster? David Bueller?). Sounds terrible.
