Teen Beauty Queen Loses Crown Over Hair Color
(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) – There are worse things a teenage beauty queen could do than change back to her natural hair color, but that is reportedly what led to a new Zealand girl losing her crown.
According to 3News.co.nz , Olivia O’Neil, 15-year-old Miss Teen Whanganui, was stripped of her title after the pageant’s director disliked her new, darker hair color in her new Facebook profile picture .
O’Neil was passionate about beauty pageants and celebrated when she won the competition last may. but, after winning as a curly-haired blonde , she was given restrictions, including wearing more makeup and doing 20 sit-ups at night.
According to the Wanganui Chronicle things took a turn when O’Neil changed her look by dying her hair a dark brown shade, with the director Barbara Osbourne commenting on her Facebook wall: “You’re not going far in this world.”
“Hand over your crown, with an attitude like that someone will step into your place with manners,” she reportedly continued.
But, the teen held her own and didn’t let the woman’s comments get her down and spoke her mind: “Me having brown hair, it’s my natural hair color, it’s not like it would change my look that much – to the extent where I can’t have the title – I think it’s just stupid.”
O’Neil’s parents told Osbourne she treated their daughter inappropriately, but it didn’t seem to make a difference.
“It was really surprising, I didn’t think that she would flip out like that,” the teen told the Wanganui Chronicle . “I don’t think you can tell a 15-year-old that they aren’t going to go very far in life. It’s hurtful.”
Surprisingly, Olivia is still listed as Miss Teen Whanganui on the organization’s Facebook page.
And Olivia has decided the harsh beauty industry is not for her after all. she is keeping her hair brown.
