Snowboarder Kevin Pearce Watches Olympic Games Shaun White Win Gold
Probably the only person that might have been able to overtake Shaun White in the men’s half pipe would have been Kevin Pearce. Unfortunately Kevin experienced a potentially career ending accident on new Year’s Eve. He was trying to practice the double cork when his head hit the top of the half pipe. Kevin actually defeated Shaun twice over the past couple of years. You can bet on the 2010 Winter Olympics online at BetUs.com and enjoy 155% in bonuses as you watch each country strive for Gold.
He was in a coma for weeks and was in critical condition. He is currently in a facility located in Colorado where he is being treated for his brain injury. He actually had to watch his friend on TV as he won the gold medal in the half pipe from his hospital bed. One of the first things he said as he regained consciousness was if he would ever be able to snowboard again. He is slowly beginning to walk with assistance and is able to perform daily tasks with some assistance.
The question that is being asked is whether or not this event has become too dangerous. there have been several accidents two different athletes over the past year. Even the all-time great White had a scary incident in January, while practicing for the X games. The pipe has gotten taller in order for the athletes to be able to get more air to perform their flips and twists. White suggests that the sport has not gotten any more dangerous, but that it has always been an extreme sport.
Even on the heels of Pearce’s injuries, it did not seem to slow down many of the competitors. White was able to take the gold by performing his signature moves and the McTwist, the newest trick in his arsenal. With the two title flips and the 3 1/2 twists makes is one of the more dangerous and extreme stunts.
Accidents do happen in the sport, and it is amazing that so many of the athletes are able to just get right back up and do it again. Shaun White has stated that you may see him again in the 2014 Olympics and we will have to see if Kevin Pearce will be there with him.
