Quick, name the most random possible combination of actors coming together in a high concept comedy. Did you say “Robin Williams, Peter Dinklage, Mila Kunis, and James Earl Jones“? of course you didn’t, because SERIOUSLY HOW RANDOM IS THAT.

Robin Williams (who, by the way, has NOT fallen more than 50 feet to his death in a remote area of the Hahnenkamm mountains) is the latest actor to sign on for The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, an upcoming movie from Field of Dreams director Phil Alden Robinson. If the fascinating cast lineup (Peter Dinklage FTW!) doesn’t pull you in, the bizarro plot definitely will.

The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is about an obnoxious guy who receives a very bad medical diagnosis: he goes to his doctor because of a migraine, and the stand-in MD tells him he has a form of cancer so aggressive he’s only got 90 minutes to live.

Off goes our dying (but not really) protagonist to haul ass around the city making up for the wrongs of his life—in, you know, an hour and a half—while his regular doctor launches into a frantic search for him because OMG DUDE IT’S JUST A HEADACHE.

Okay, so it sounds a little farfetched, hence the term high concept, but I’ve been willing to accept much stranger premises in movies before. (Let’s clone dinosaurs from old mosquito blood!) Honestly, I’m not sure the plot even matters at all to me, because thanks to his genius performance in Game of Thrones, I’d probably watch a two-hour rendition of someone reading a phone book as long as Peter Dinklage was involved.

Take Dinklage and add Robin Williams, who is actually a pretty great actor when he stops capering around (remember how creepy he was in one Hour Photo?), and throw in the insanely random elements of Mila Kunis and James Earl Jones, and I’m thinking this movie sounds very, very interesting.

Director Phil Robinson said he knew he wanted to be involved as soon as he read the screenplay:

When I read Dan Taplitz’s amazing screenplay I laughed and cried until I realized that I wanted so much to see this film that I was actually eager to spend a few years of my life getting it made.

It hasn’t been announced what roles the actors are playing, but Williams said of the script, “The idea of being that nasty and funny is a gift!” So I’m guessing he’ll play the main role, and I’m also thinking that it will be less of a shmoopy sentimental odyssey and more of a man’s ill-advised acts of revenge.

At any rate, we’ll have to wait a while to see how The Angriest Man in Brooklyn turns out, since it doesn’t start shooting until September—but it’s always good news to hear about a unique movie being made, don’t you think? one that isn’t a sequel or a reboot or based on a Hasbro game?
