No rest for Gold medalist Shaun White
This one’s staying far from the dry cleaners, says White.
Now that he’s done competing at the Olympics, you’d think it’d be all high-fives and umbrella drinks for Shaun White, right?
Not yet, and certainly not today.
Chicago called last night, and since Obama’s relocated, that can only mean one thing.
“Oprah requested for me to be on the show today at 6 a.m., and I was surprisingly awake because I was so excited to be on,” White said.
“Unwinding” doesn’t exactly exist for this 2010 Olympic Gold medalist. Immediately following his Snowboard Halfpipe win Wednesday night, White headed straight to two separate press conferences, even before dinner. “I don’t eat before an event — it slows me down.”
He took pause for food with the fam, where cheeseburgers seem to be a theme. “My friend was eating a burger, and ketchup flew inches from the [medal] ribbon. my mom sent it to the dry cleaner last time [his 2006 Gold from Torino], so I’m a little more careful this time. It’s hard not to want to wear it everywhere,” he said.
Next up for White? this coming week, he’ll be heading to Europe to do more media. He then flies to Japan (“I have a lot of friends and fans there”) before heading back to Vancouver for the Closing Ceremony.
When he finally gets back home to Carlsbad, Calif.? “I’ll probably go to In-N-Out. It’s a food thing for me — the first thing I do. Then I start skateboarding.”
Is this where we start thinking about what’s possible with White’s talent (and Red Bull-caliber resources) in a training facility that doesn’t melt?
“We have some options. I’d love to put down some new tricks. That 1080 has been a beast of burden.”
