Latest snapper packs Full HD video and rejigged auto focus system.

The Nikon D3100 is finally official after being the subject of some intense online gossip. The new DSLR comes rocking a stunning new auto focus system as part of its HD video function, which tracks subjects and constantly checks contrast, something usually reserved for top-end cammies.

The HD clips can be shot in 1080p at 24fps, or dropped down to 720p if you fancy some HD Ready action. As for regular snaps, you get 14.2 megapixels, ISO up to an eye-watering 12,800 for super low light shots and a 3-inch panel to see your handiwork on.

The D3100 also comes with the same guide mode found on the D3000, essentially helping DSLR newbies get around the camera and get the most out of it. you also get an 18-55mm lens in the box.

There’s also the chance to edit and retouch shots on the camera, so you don’t need to fire up Photoshop every time one of your pics needs a bit of attention. Live View also rocks a scene auto selector feature, so you can let the camera do the work in finding the best mode for the snaps you want to take.

UK pricing is yet to be released, but you can expect the D3100 to be at the affordable end of the DSLR pool.
