CINCINNATI, Aug. 31 (UPI) — Joey Votto doubled twice and drove in three runs Tuesday, helping the Cincinnati Reds overpower Milwaukee 8-4.

Votto gave Cincinnati the lead for good in the first inning with a two-run double and extended the Reds’ lead to 5-3 with an RBI hit in the fifth.

Jonny Gomes homered and Scott Rolen chipped in two RBI for the Reds, who lengthened their National League Central lead to seven games over second-place St. Louis with the win, their fifth in six games.

Sam LeCure (2-4) got the victory with two innings of scoreless relief and much-heralded rookie Aroldis Chapman made his major league debut, hitting 102 mph while striking out Jonathan Lucroy in the eighth.

Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo (11-7) was blasted for seven runs on eight hits over five innings.
