The number of people trying their luck with the lottery remains steady. 

Despite hard times people across the state are still buying lottery tickets.

Buyers are hoping to win some cash that can help them pay off bills. the assistant manager at the Exxon on Youree Drive says she has seen an increase in ticket sales.  Melissa Morton has seen $1,200 more spent on tickets from September to October. 

“It’s a quick easy cheap game. What’s a dollar here for the chance to win $2,000.”

Powerball and Lotto sales are strongly driven by jackpot size. For some people the jackpot doesn’t matter. Claude Williams is hoping good luck will be on their side. “Hoping to get that big break so I can pay my bills quicker. have a little money saved up for my grandkids.”

in August people won more than $6 million from Louisiana lottery tickets and almost $7 million was claimed on scratch off tickets.
