Badu strips down in music video
Erykah Badu is taking a walk on the wild side.
In the provocative new video for her song Window Seat, the R&B diva slowly strips naked as she strolls through Dallas’s Dealey Plaza, eventually falling to the ground at the site where U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
The grainy single-shot clip — which evokes the style of the famed Zapruder film — was apparently produced guerilla-style on the fly, judging by the surprised looks of passersby as the 39-year-old Dallas vocalist disrobes before collapsing as a shot rings out.
On her Twitter feed, Badu acknowleged, “They were yelling , THIS IS A PUBLIC PLACE : YOU OUGHTA BE ASHAMED : PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON : DAMN GIRL! …
Heard people yelling diff things @ me but I held my head up and kept moving. There were children there. I prayed they wouldn’t be traumatized.
“Funny thing is, the physical nudity is nothing,” Tweeted Badu, whose privates are modestly pixelated in the clip. “I been naked all along in my words actions and deeds. That’s the real vulnerable place.”
The point of it all? something to do with combating “group think” and people who are “quick to assassinate what they don’t understand,” according to a voiceover at the end of the clip.
Whatever you say, Erykah.
As long as it doesn’t give Bob Dylan any ideas.
