Bob Uecker to join WWE Hall of Fame
Legendary actor, comedian, sportscaster and Major League Baseball player Bob Uecker will be the seventh and final inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2010. Uecker will join WWE’s “celebrity wing” of the WWE Hall of Fame, currently occupied by such luminaries as Pete Rose and William “The Refrigerator” Perry.
Uecker is best known for his comedy work and baseball broadcasting careers, both of which came after his own short mediocre MLB career. He in fact still does radio play-by-play for his hometown Milwaukee Brewers. Uecker is probably most famous for his role on the ‘80s sitcom Mr. Belvedere and of course his work in the Major League movies as the announcer for the film’s version of the Cleveland Indians. some of his lines from the first Major League film are arguably the most quoted of not only the film but of any comedy from the ‘80s.
During the height of his popularity on Mr. Belvedere Uecker appeared at both WrestleMania III and WrestleMania as a backstage interviewer, commentator and all around presence. Uecker’s good natured humor shined through during his WrestleMania appearances and he interacted well with the WWF’s cast of characters at the time.
Bob Uecker interviews Andre the Giant at WrestleMania IV:
Despite him not making an appearance with WWE since 1988 he has remained in the company’s good graces since then and his interview with Andre is often replayed in WrestleMania highlight packages. He will be on hand this Saturday and Sunday for WrestleMania and will inducted into the Hall on Saturday night by Chairman of NBC Sports Dick Ebersol, a man who was had a long relationship with WWE and Vince McMahon over the years and was the brainchild of WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event.
